Ramatoulie Baldeh, a 19-year-old girl, has been arrested for setting her boyfriend’s family home on fire in Kerr Sering, Gambia, leading to widespread reactions online.
The incident took place on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, after a fierce argument with her boyfriend. According to local media, Ramatoulie ignited a plastic bag and threw it on the bed, then opened a gas cylinder.
The flames quickly took over, destroying the entire house and all its contents. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the damage was significant.
At that moment, 10 tenants were in the building. The fire also affected their apartments, leaving them without anything.
One of the affected tenants told journalists, “We are now homeless, with all our belongings destroyed. We urgently need help.”
The suspect is now held at the Senegambia Police Station while CID officers carry on with their investigation.
