2 Dead, 1 Injured As Fire Guts Canadian Embassy

On Monday, a fire that destroyed a portion of the Canadian Embassy in Abuja was said to have killed at least two individuals and seriously injured another.

Eyewitnesses said that fire broke out from the Embassy’s power producing plant during the incident when it was being repaired.

Two people lost their lives in that fire outbreak, one had serious injuries, and one managed to escape through the power house’s roof.

According to sources, the victims were working on the generating set as members of the technical staff when the tragedy occurred.

The unexpected explosion from the generating set caused the dead victims to be blown out of the powerhouse, according to the sources.

Our reporter was informed by some employees who fled the Embassy for safety outside the gates that the fire started at 1:00 p.m. and that fire engines were dispatched to put out the conflagration.

As an ambulance drove in to remove those impacted, LEADERSHIP learned that Embassy staff members were being transported to safety behind trees and other safe spots within the building enclosure.

Amiola Adebayo, the FCT Fire Service’s Head of Operations, verified the occurrence and stated that several patients had been sent to the hospital right away.

However, Adebayo withheld information regarding the origin of the fire event and the nationality of the victims—foreigners or Nigerians.

At the time, the Embassy had not yet released an official statement regarding the incident.
