A second-year male student at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) in Kwara State has reportedly ended his life over financial difficulties.
The student has not been identified and was part of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS).
It was reported that the student had a cumulative GPA of 4.5 in the Department of Mass Communication before his tragic passing.
The incident occurred at his house in the Oke-Odo area of Tanke community, Ilorin, the capital of the state.
According to sources within the university, the deceased ended his life due to money problems.
It was noted that he lost his father a few years ago, and his mother, who is a retired school teacher, has been responsible for funding his studies since that time.
His financial problems started when he went back to school last year. This led his friends to raise money to help pay for his tuition and buy him groceries.
Sadly, it was reported that he took poison last weekend after his roommate went to class. He left a note explaining that he couldn’t handle his financial struggles, which led him to take his own life.
