Bashir Ahmad, the Personal Assistant on New Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, used a picture from the 2019 Campaign Rally of Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Taraba State, to deceptively campaign for his principal.
Recall, that Atiku and his Campaign team visited Taraba State, on Tuesday.
A newspaper advertorial had placed the picture from the PDP Campaign on its front page, with a message thanking the people of the State for coming out to receive Atiku.
The picture was also captioned: “A section of the crowd at the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign flag-off in Jalingo, Taraba State, on Tuesday, February 5, 2019”.
However, Ahmad uploaded a picture of the advertorial on his Twitter handle, portraying it as taken at Buhari’s 2019 Presidential Campaign rally in the State.
Recall, that Buhari held his re-election campaign in Taraba State, on Thursday.
“Thank you, Tarabans! #PMBInTarabaa”, Ahmad wrote, using the picture from Atiku’s Taraba State Campaign Rally.
Ahmad’s post was received with huge criticisms, with some commenting that he has been “Atikulated”, just a week to the general elections.
Below are some of the reactions to Ahmad’s post:
@martinsalive: But this is @OfficialPDPNig rally in Taraba, except u have been Atikated too.
@ekesunvictor: Strategically placed the newspaper to crop out the title of the photo, but could not notice that there are flags in the picture.
@ayobhad: Below if you look clearly, you can see Abubakar. How did he miss that also.
@FIOnwuchekwa: The sweet thing about this blunder, is that no Buhari minion can defend this one. The own goal is so glaring ehh.
Ahmad however, later took down the tweet.
