2023: Ganduje Declares Support for Southern Candidate.
The Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State, on Friday, declared that the 2023 presidential ticket should be zoned to the south.
According to him, the All Progressives Congress (APC) should respect the zoning agreement even though it is not entrenched in the constitution.
When asked which zone should produce the next president for Nigeria during his appearance on Channels TV Politics Today, “The Southern part of the country but there should be a consensus of the members,” he said.
He added that “zoning system even though it is not in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it is a strategy for winning elections.”
The Governor in his view said the APC as well as the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has done well for Nigerians. He expressed confidence that the party will win the 2023 elections at the federal level despite current wranglings between some stakeholders in the party.
“I think in 2023, APC will win the election because more people are coming into the party. Though we lost some governors because of intraparty problems, at the same time some are coming into the party.
“Also there is a very strong movement now to reconcile the major actors and I think that is also making the party stronger,” he said.
Ganduje however advised the party leadership to put its house in order ahead of the 2023 elections in the country so the APC can have a good outing at all levels.
