Aisha Yesufu, an activist and the founder of Citizens Hub, has declared her intention to oppose Mr. Peter Obi’s candidacy should he decide to run for Vice President under a different candidate in the 2027 presidential election.
In a video statement released on Monday, Yesufu expressed her concern regarding the tendency of Nigerians to support the most qualified individuals for secondary positions. This remark is closely linked to reports indicating that Obi has shown a willingness to collaborate with a more qualified candidate for the Vice Presidency.
Earlier, Gistreel reported that Peter Obi, who was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has expressed his openness to working with other politicians in preparation for the 2027 election.
In an interview with News Central, Obi conveyed his readiness to partner with individuals from various political backgrounds, including Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Obi stressed that any such collaboration should prioritize the enhancement of citizens’ lives rather than merely focusing on electoral victories.
He stated, “I’m ready to collaborate with anyone who is interested in lifting people out of poverty. If the collaboration is for state capture or just to win an election, I will not be part of it.”
When questioned about the possibility of serving as Vice President to another politician, Obi indicated that he would consider the role if he identified someone more capable than himself.
He clarified, “Quite frankly, for me, I’m not desperate to be Nigerian president. I am desperate to see Nigeria work. If I see people who can do the work better, I will.”
