Auwalu Salisu, a 22-year-old commercial tricycle (Keke Napep) driver who returned a lost ₦15 million to its owner in Kano State, has been given a scholarship of N250 million.
Remember that in September 2023, Salisu retrieved N15 million that had been forgotten by a traveler who had come from Chad to buy things in Kano.
Salisu, a native of Yankaba in the state’s Nasarawa Local Government Area, returned the money after hearing a radio station in Kano announce the missing money.
Since then, the young man has been recognized by government authorities, organizations, and individuals, as well as receiving various presents, including a new tricycle from a benefactor.
The most significant of all is a scholarship of N250 million that will be handed to him on Tuesday, March 5, 2023, along with the LEADERSHIP ‘Outstanding Young Person of the Year 2023‘ Award in recognition of his exceptional honesty.
A fellow awardee and Labour Party (LP) presidential contender, Peter Obi, who was named the LEADERSHIP Politician of the Year 2023, was the first to give an Awwalu scholarship at Abuja’s Baze University up to PhD level.
Following that, Niger State Governor and co-winner of the LEADERSHIP Governor of the Year Award, Mohammed Umar Bago, responded jokingly, saying the Labour Party could not be allowed to outshine the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bago subsequently announced a N250 million scholarship gift to Awwalu.
He stated that Awwalu will receive N50 million scholarships from him, President Bola Tinubu, his ministers, the APC Governors Forum, and the Niger State government.
Bago further stated that he plans to name one of the road projects he is working on in Niger State after the Kano Keke rider.
