6 Feared Dead, 11 Injured On Kaduna-Zaria Expressway Road Crash

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kaduna Sector Command, a vehicle incident on the Kaduna-Zaria expressway resulted in six fatalities and eleven injuries.

The sector commander, Mr. Kabir Nadabo, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna that the collision happened at the Aliko gas station on the Kaduna-Zaria expressway on Tuesday at approximately 06:25 in the morning.

Nadabo blamed speeding and careless driving for the numerous incidents, which caused traffic to temporarily stop. He said that following the swift action and successful rescue by the Zebra 35 Rigachikun rescue team, the route was immediately available for traffic.

“Initial investigations revealed that 23 individuals were involved in the crash, with 11 injured and sadly, resulting in the loss of all 6 lives,” Nadabo stated.

He said that the Toyota bus involved was travelling from Ilesha to Batsari, Katsina State, adding, “The driver was speeding, lost control, and collided with another moving vehicle, causing the crash.”

Nadabo observed that non-resident drivers, primarily from other states, were responsible for the majority of highway traffic accidents, which he attributed to weariness.

“As the leading agency in transport management and road safety, the FRSC Kaduna state is deeply saddened by this regrettable yet preventable incident,” Nadabo said.

“Kaduna state holds significant transportation importance; hence, the state Command has instituted safety measures to guide transporters on safe travel, especially during this festive season and beyond. Educating motorists on safety practices significantly reduces Road Traffic Crashes,” he added.

Nadabo called on all parties involved—transport unions in particular—to support their drivers’ advocacy of safety procedures.

Additionally, he mentioned the Corps’ partnership with media organizations to inform the public about the dangers of reckless driving, overloading, worn-out tires, and exhaustion from extended travel.

The sector commander urged everyone who uses the roads to always drive safely.
