According to a BBC report on Thursday, Safina Namukwaya, a 70-year-old Ugandan woman, became pregnant through in vitro fertilization and gave birth to a boy and a girl.
On Wednesday, at the Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, Namukwaya had a successful cesarean delivery.
On Wednesday, the hospital announced the birth on its Facebook page, writing, “70-year-old Safina Namukwaya, speaking just before the delivery of her beautiful babies.” Indeed, she gave birth to a boy and a girl.
“As we honour this courageous mother and anticipate the healthy growth of her twins, we invite you to celebrate with us. This story isn’t just about medical success; it’s about the strength and resilience of the human spirit.”
IVF is a procedure used to help people with infertility have children, according to PUNCH Online.
An egg is taken out of the woman’s ovaries and fertilized with sperm in a lab setting under strict control during in vitro fertilization (IVF).
The fertilized egg, also known as an embryo, is subsequently placed back into the woman’s womb to continue growing and developing.
After giving birth to a girl in 2020, Namukwaya informed a privately held NTV channel that this was her second delivery in three years.
The 70-year-old revealed that she had encountered several challenges while carrying a child, including the father of the children’s desertion.
She lamented, “Men don’t like to be told that you are carrying more than one child. Ever since I was admitted here, my man has never shown up.”
According to the study, Namukwaya expressed uncertainty about her ability to raise the children, but she was glad to have them after years of facing discrimination and shame for not having children.
She remembered being heckled by a very small youngster who claimed that her mother had cursed her to die childless.
Namukwaya gives birth, becoming the oldest woman in Africa to do so.
