Nine dead have been found following a boat accident that happened in the state’s Shiroro Local Government Area, according to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA).
Alhaji Salihu Garba, the Head of Relief and Rehabilitation at NSEMA, revealed this in a Sunday interview in Minna with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
NAN reminds viewers that a boat accident on Thursday, November 16 resulted in the confirmation of ten deaths.
The deadly incident allegedly occurred as the victims, who were primarily traders, were transporting goods from Zongoru Community in Bassa Ward to Gijiwa in advance of the Friday market in Kuta, the Shiroro LGA headquarters.
There were apparently at least 34 people on board, 10 of whom were claimed to have died, and local divers
Farida Muntari, Sharhabila Sagir, Abubakar Sadiq, Na’ima Ibrahim, Amina, Safaratu Ibrahim, Sadiq Ibrahim, and Rafiya Yakubu were among the names Garba provided for the deceased.
He added that all of the fatalities were from Zangoro and that the agency was still in the process of identifying two of the victims.
He added that when the boat capsized, there were ten male and female youngsters and twenty adult male and female passengers.
In addition, Garba stated that a search was still on to find the remaining bodies.
