NANS Reacts as Students is Set To Undergo NDLEA’S Drug Test.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has got the support and go-ahead order by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for the proposed policy to subject students to drug integrity tests before admission into the University.
The President of NANS, Asefon Sunday Daye, backed the policy during a visit to the new Chairman/Chief Executive, NDLEA, Brig-Gen Buba Marwa (Rtd), on Wednesday, Gistlover reports.
This was disclosed in a statement to newsmen by the spokesperson of the NDLEA, Jonah Achema.
Achema disclosed that the NANS president said drug abuse had done more harm than good to the Nigerian students.
“We do not want Nigerian students to continue to die of drugs.
“Daye, who gave instances of students who undermine danger under the influence of drugs, noted that the initiative is not only preventive but would encourage others to stop the habit, knowing that the authorities would detect it.
“From your antecedents, we can now go home to sleep with our two eyes closed with the assurance that Nigeria is in safe hands, on drug control issues.
“Most of the drug problems ravaging the students is when they leave their homes and start schooling,” Achema quoted Daye as saying.
Buba Marwa, speaking during the visit, commended NANS for the show of solidarity, stressing that he was delighted by their promise to cleanse the campuses of drugs.
He said: “Your buying into our drug testing among students is equally encouraging,” Marwa said, urging them to strengthen the Drug-Free Clubs in campuses.
