Nigerian Singer and Songwriter, Tems, has become the first female artiste in Nigeria to hit five (5) million monthly listeners on Spotify. The only artistes with five (5) million monthly listeners or more on Spotify in Nigeria are Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Mr. Eazi.
Many people have attributed this milestone to her collaboration with Wizkid on the ‘Essence’ hit song. Some people believe it is valid because most people outside Nigeria got to know of her after the song came out.
Tems became very popular in Nigeria when she released her hit song ‘Try Me.’ People then noticed her for her talent and lyricism. However, ‘Essence’ took her to the international level.
After the song became an international hit, Tems debuted the number one spot on Billboard Next Big Sound Chart. Most people have commended her for delivering an incredibly phenomenal verse on ‘Essence’ which has become the easiest part of the song for people to sing along.
