Ex-Kaduna State Governor, Alhaji Kaita Dies At 85 Ex-Kaduna State Governor, Alhaji Kaita Dies At 85

ALHAJI Lawal Kaita, 85, who was a major player in the Second Republic and also elected as the third civilian governor of the old Kaduna State is dead. He died at the Turkish Hospital, Abuja, yesterday evening.

The late Lawal Kaita was elected as Governor of the old Kaduna State on the platform of the defunct National Party of Nigeria, NPN, in October 1983, after he led the political struggle that led to the impeachment of  Alhaji Balarabe Musa as governor of the state.

Unfortunately, he only spent 3 months in office before the coup that brought in Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) that ended the Second Republic. He was a close associate of the late Shehu Musa Yar‘Adua’s political machine and before his death, had so much influence on the political issues regarding Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Kaita, who later left the PDP in the year 2006, joined the Action Congress, AC, and remained a key ally of the former Vice-President in his political adventures. It can be recalled that in the years before the 2011 presidential elections, he vowed that the North would make the country ungovernable for President Goodluck Jonathan if he defeated the Action Congress Presidential candidate then in the person of General Mohammadu Buhari.

He will be buried today according to Islamic rites
