The General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, elevator accident investigation panel, which was established by the Lagos State Government, has reached a critical conclusion.
According to Gistlover, Vwaere Diaso, a female doctor, passed away in a malfunctioning elevator two weeks before the end of her housemanship at the General Hospital.
The elevator was alleged to have previously been defective, and before the tragic incident, staff had complained about it.
The Lagos government established a panel to investigate the elevator accident and deliver its findings within 48 hours as a result of the incident’s uproar on and off social media.
The panel has turned over the elevator installer to the Nigerian police for questioning and further interrogation, according to a statement released by the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos Ministry of Information and Strategy, Olumide Sogunle, on Friday.
He revealed that the installer was detained in order to make sure he would always be accessible in case the panel needed him for additional inquiries.
Sogunle added that the panel will present a report of its preliminary findings on Saturday for further action to be taken in the matter. The panel also invited a lift expert to the accident scene to examine the lift and provide a preliminary opinion.
“A panel has been established, according to him, and it includes the director-general of the safety commission, the permanent secretary of the ministry of health, the chairman of the Lagos State Health Service Commission (HSC), house officers, and representatives of medical associations.
“The facility manager, LASIAMA staff, and the administration of General Hospital, Lagos, met with the panel. The Panel also had meetings with the elevator installer and some company representatives.
“A lift expert was additionally invited by the Panel to the accident scene so they could examine the lift and offer a preliminary assessment. Now, other experts would remove the elevator and thoroughly inspect its mechanical and electrical systems. The panel handed the lift installer over to the Police for questioning and further interrogation as part of their activities starting on the first day when they interviewed him. That way, the installer will always be accessible in case the panel has any additional inquiries.
As witnesses, six house officers and representatives of the medical associations were chosen. The panel was open to including members from the House Officers and medical associations.
“The panel has 48 hours to complete its work, so it will present a report of its preliminary findings on Saturday. The appropriate authorities would then take any further actions that needed to be taken. ”.
