Born on January 7, 1974, Dino Melaye is a politician, business man and social activitist from Ayetoro Gbede in Kogi State’s Ijumu Local Government Area in Nigeria.
He was elected to the 8th Nigerian National Assembly to represent the Kogi West Senatorial District, He was a Former senator and member of the House of Representatives
Dino Melaye is a PDP supporter. After months of political conflict with the governor of Kogi State, he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015 but later switched back to the PDP in the run-up to the 2019 elections.
He oversaw the Senate’s FCT (Federal Capital Territory) Committee in Abuja and briefly served as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Nigerian Aviation. He served as the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s bid for the presidency in 2023.
Early age and education
Dino Melaye was born in Kano State, Nigeria. For his secondary education, he went to Abdulaziz Attah Memorial College, Okene. He graduation from geography at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria in 2000. He was the president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), and he later held the positions of secretary general of the Commonwealth Youth Council and the African Youth Council. President Olusegun Obasanjo appointed him to lead the Presidential Advisory Council on Youths.
Political life
He joined the People’s Democratic Party in 2015 where he was re-elected to the House of Representatives to represent the federal district of Kabba/Ijumu. He was chosen to represent Kogi-West in the Nigerian Senate in the 2015 senatorial elections.
As a follow-up to Senator Ahmad Sani Yerima’s nomination, he seconded the nomination of Senator Bukola Saraki as a candidate for the position of Senate President. On February 23, 2019, he won reelection to the 9th Senate and will now serve as a senator for the Kogi-West senatorial district.
Governorship Ambition
The Kogi State governor’s race was held on November 16, 2019, and Dino Melaye ran for office. In a hotly contested primary election on September 3, 2019, He came in third, 70 votes behind Engr. Musa Wada, and thus lost his bid for governor. Musa Wada received 748 votes in total and won.
In Kogi state’s 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election, he has been proclaimed the victor with his deputy Hon. Habeeb Allah.

The 8th National Assembly saw more than 30 motions proposed by Dino Melaye, who also sponsored about 20 bills. Private Life
Right now, Melaye is single. He previously had a ten-year marriage to Tokunbo Melaye. After a case of domestic abuse, she filed for divorce. Together with Dino, Tokunbo has three kids.
