Lagos Govt Postpone Third Mainland Bridge Closure

The Third Mainland Bridge‘s planned partial closure by the Lagos State Government for some repairs has been postponed indefinitely.

Previously, the Lagos State government had intended to close the bridge for two Sundays so that palliative maintenance could be done, according to GISTLOVERS.

The bridge will be shut down twice in September 2023, starting at 7 a.m., the Lagos State government announced on Friday. m. to 7:00 p.m. m. on Sundays.

But in a recent development, the Lagos government on Saturday announced a change in the bridge’s closure schedule.

In a statement, the Transportation Commissioner, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stated that the postponement was brought on by severe downpours that affected the entire city.

The commissioner explained that preliminary planning for the Lagos State Public Works Corporation’s anticipated palliative works on the bridge’s asphalt pavement had been hampered by rain, making immediate action impossible.

He urged drivers to use the bridge as usual while maintaining safety precautions, and he promised that a later date—which would depend on the weather—would be duly communicated for the palliative works.
