Five alleged vandals and cable thieves have been detained by the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for unauthorized possession of communication cables.
The suspects are Sulieman Abdulamin (30), from the Kagaro Local Government Area in Kaduna State; Musa Yakubu (37); Celestine Nelson (29); Oluwatosin Henry (27); Ondo West LGA in Ondo State; and Okolawen Femi (25); from the Akoko South LGA in Ondo State.
Olusola Odumosu, the FCT Commandant, reported that the corps detained two people on Thursday at Pai, in Kwali Area Council, who were in possession of 16 jerrycans of petroleum products believed to be crude oil. He added that an investigation was ongoing to determine the source of the products and, possibly, to identify the man hiding behind the mask.
Two more people were detained who were suspected of damaging the armored cables belonging to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company on the grounds of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Officers from the Command also detained a second suspect who had gone and moved a flat-screen television at Maitama District Hospital.
“In the course of carrying out this noble assignment, the Command arrests suspects on a daily basis based on its usual proactive approach to work,” Odumosu said during the parade. Every day, suspected vandals and other criminals are caught with their exhibits in hand.
The command is unwilling to compromise its effort to completely and irrevocably eradicate all forms of vandalism and criminality within the metropolis, so after the investigations are complete, the suspects will be prosecuted. “
Announcing the theme “Action for Peace: Our Ambition for the Global Goals” for the 2023 International Day of Peace, Odumosu said, “Today is a call to action that recognises our individual and collective responsibility to foster peace.
“Supporting peace helps achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals will foster a culture of peace for all“
