Ola Olukoyede and Mohammed Hamajoda, have been confirmed by the Senate to serve as the Chairman and Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Halima Shehu, the chief executive officer (CEO) of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), was also confirmed alongside the pair.
A few months after the president had suspended Abdulrasheed Bawa, the previous head of the anti-graft agency, Olukoyede was appointed acting chairman of the EFCC.
Olukoyede emphasized throughout the screening and confirmation process that a number of Nigerian institutions and systems had been overtaken by the financial crisis and that they were determined to halt it without fear or favor and in compliance with the law.
He went on to say that prevention will take precedence over enforcement.
BREAKING: Senate begins screening to confirm EFCC chairman
The Senate has begun confirmation proceedings for Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has started the confirmation process for him to serve as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as he is currently present at the National Assembly.
President Bola Tinubu appointed him after Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, the previous head of the anti-graft agency, was suspended over four months prior.
Olukoyede’s appointment as the Executive Chairman of the EFCC was just approved by Tinubu; the Senate must yet endorse the nomination.
