Panic and Gunshots at Rivers assembly as legislators begin Gov. Sim Fubara impeachment

As some members gathered to start the impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Monday, there were gunshots and the discharge of tear gas inside the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex.

A group of about twenty-three parliamentarians, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, decided to start the process.

Along with Edison Ehie, the head of the House, the parliamentarians also suspended a few of their fellow lawmakers who they felt were close to the governor.

Remember how the chamber was being demolished on Sunday night when there was an explosion at the manufacturing complex?

Following the meeting, legislators were observed driving out of the Assembly at approximately 8:15 a.m., accompanied by heavily armed security guards.

Following the gunshot and firing of teargas, people ran helter-skelter as policemen chased people, including workers whose offices are located within the area.
