Divine Ikubor, a teenage Afrobeat global sensation known as Rema, has provoked uproar online with a recent comment supporting Burna Boy.
On his X (formerly Twitter) profile, the youthful musician praised Burna Boy for being the first person to give him the opportunity to perform at the O2 Arena.
Rema’s comments were made public just minutes before his first performance at the O2 Arena. Burna Boy, according to the Calm Down crooner, has always been a great inspiration to him.
Rema said;
“Before I get on stage, I want to say a big thank you to @burnaboy for bringing me on stage two years ago. Today, it’s my turn to conquer that same stage, and I wish you were here to share this moment with me. Regardless, I’m grateful for the motivation. With love, Rema.”
Rema wins big, Burna Boy loses three awards at 2023 MTV EMAs
Rema, a well-known Nigerian artist, is the first recipient of the “Best Afrobeats” category at the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards.
It should be noted that the event organisers included a new category called “Best Afrobeats” for the 2023 ceremony.
Among the first nominations were French diva Aya Nakamura, as well as Nigerian singers Asake, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, Davido, and Rema.
Despite the fact that the award event was cancelled due to the Israel-Hamas conflict, the winners were revealed on November 6, 2023.
Rema was named the “Best Afrobeats” winner, while Diamond Platnumz of Tanzania was named the “Best African Act.”
Rema and Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down” did not win the “Best Collaboration” category, falling to Jung Kook and Latto’s “Seven.”
Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning Nigerian artist, missed out on three awards: “Best Afrobeats,” “Best African Act,” and “Best Live Performer.”
This occurred shortly after he was stripped of all seven nominations for the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards.
Taylor Swift lead the list of winners at the 2023 MTV EMAs, taking home three trophies for “Best Video,” “Best Artist,” and “Best Live.”
