Education

Asisat attended Air Force Primary School on Victoria Island for her elementary education. She then transferred to Aunty Ayo International School in Ikoyi for her senior education, from which she graduated in 2009.

However, she began her career at Nigerian Lower Division team FC Robo immediately following her secondary school schooling, where she remained until 2013 before joining Rivers Angels.

Football Career

Asisat first gained notoriety at Rivers Angels, where she competed for Nigeria in the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada, where they placed second. With seven goals, she finished first and was named Player of the Tournament.

Her impressive performances in Canada and Namibia did not go unnoticed, as former team coach Edwin Okon called her up to the Super Falcons squad for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.

During that World Cup, Asisat performed admirably for the Nigerian women’s national team. Sadly, though, the Super Falcons were unable to go past the opening round.

Oshoala enlisted on January 23, 2015, with the Liverpool Ladies. She became the first African female football player to participate in the Women’s Super League after relocating to Liverpool.

Oshoala was named BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year in 2015 following her stellar debut campaign.

Oshoala left Arsenal Ladies a year later and joined for Chinese team Dalian Quanjian F.C. During her brief stay in China, she led the team in scoring in the 2017 Superleague.

FC Barcelona Femení signed loan deal with Asisat in Spain in 2019 following a fantastic stint in China, which lasted until the end of the season.

In 2019, Barcelona lost to Lyon 4-1, and she scored the team’s only goal. This made her the first African player and Barcelona Femení player to score in a UEFA Women’s Champions League Final. She also became the first-ever Nigerian to score in a men’s or women’s UEFA Champions League final.

Later in 2019, the Camp Nou team declared that Oshoala had completed his formal transfer to the team and was set to stay until 2022.

She assumed the captaincy of the Super Falcons following Desire Oparanozie’s dismissal due to a disagreement with prominent figures in Nigerian football. Asisat was only recently removed from her position as the Nigerian team’s captain.

Prior to pursuing football as a vocation, the former African Footballer of the Year suffered from child pregnancy.
