On Friday, three more commissioners submitted their resignation letter from the Rivers State Executive Council
These Commissioners include: Austen Ben-Chioma for the environment, Gift Worlu for housing, and Dr. Jacobson Nbina for transportation
Report emphasized two separate resignation letters they gave to the governor through the Secretary of the State Government.
Nbina and Ben-Chioma were commissioners under Nyesom Wike’s most recent administration.
Since the bombing of the State House of Assembly on October 29, 2023, the state has been engulfed in a political crisis, and their resignation came soon after.
This brings the number of commissioners who have resigned their positions that PUNCH Online can confirm to nine.
Nbina, who confirmed his resignation to our correspondent on Friday via telephone said, “Yes, I have yesterday (Thursday).”
Asked about the reason for his action, he stated, “The reason is personal to me and my family commitments. I don’t have any issue with the governor. It is very personal.”
Although it hasn’t been verified, there are rumors that their actions are laying the foundation for them to formally defect to the All Progressives Congress.
Chief Tony Okocha, the APC’s Caretaker Committee Chairman in Rivers State, told our correspondent on Wednesday that this weekend will mark the official debut of the new party in Rivers. He added, “You will see the tsunami that will happen that day.”
