Afrobeats artist Divine Ikubo, known as Rema, has revealed that his popular 2019 song Dumebi was mostly made up of nonsensical words.

Rema, who is part of the Jonzing World label linked to Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records, shared that he was encouraged to release the track even before he had complete lyrics.

In a CNN interview, the Calm Down singer explained how he turned 16 bars of gibberish into Dumebi with help from D’Prince, Don Jazzy’s brother and the head of Jonzing World.

“I was just vibing, I was just being free with my music,” Rema said.

“It’s quite genius to let people dance to something that doesn’t exist,” the singer added.
