The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) explained the reason for re-arresting social media figure Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, in Lagos on Thursday night.

Bobrisky was caught by immigration officials at Murtala Muhammed International Airport while trying to take a KLM flight to London through Amsterdam.

EFCC spokesperson Mr. Dele Oyewale said on Friday morning that Bobrisky was taken into custody for not answering several invitations from the commission.

According to Oyewale, the crossdresser is facing an investigation for bribery, specifically for allegedly paying N15 million to EFCC officials to have money laundering charges dropped.

The EFCC has rejected these claims and suggested that Bobrisky could be charged with providing false information.

“We apprehended him in Lagos, and he will be transported to Abuja,” he affirmed.

“He accused us of bribery and corruption, yet he repeatedly ignored our summons to substantiate these claims. Such serious allegations cannot be ignored. Furthermore, he declined to appear before the National Assembly on this matter. We had no option but to take him into custody to ensure he provides evidence to support his accusations,” the spokesman added.
