43 Years Old Man Electrocuted To Death In Delta Community
According to Daily Post, the man identified a Theophilus was electrocuted to death by a high tension cable after he was called upon by his boos to disconnect all illegal connections in the area.
An eyewitness who craved anonymity said there was no light at the time the victim climbed the electric pole for disconnection.
The eyewitness, however, said they were shocked when light was restored, leading to the electrocution of the man.
The eyewitness said he died instantly even before he was brought down after the light went off.
In his words:
‘It is true that there are a lot of illegal connections in this area. So when the official came around to disconnect the light, no one objected and he was carrying on his duty without resistance’ the source said
‘And just as it is the norm, light supply in the area had already been ceased while the guy was working. Only for the light to be restored all of a sudden and the man was shocked to death. We couldn’t rescue him on time. He died almost immediately after he was electrocuted’
Another resident of the area who chose to be anonymous as well blamed the incident on the BEDC. According to him, it is more like a deliberate action from staff of the company. He said in cases like this, words need to be put out to all staff on the proposed plan to work on power cables so they can discontinue the supply of electricity to the affected area. So the blame should be placed on the staff of the company
Contacted, the Delta State Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka said,v”No. I’m not aware. I will find out and get back to you.”
Efforts to speak with officials of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, were unsuccessful as none of them, not even the Public Relations Officer picked or returned phone calls.
