- Joseph Aloba, the father of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, has addressed public criticism surrounding his music career.
- Aloba denied allegedly exploiting his son’s death to boost his music career in an interview with Silverbird TV.
Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Nigerian artist Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has responded to public criticism regarding his music career.
In an interview broadcast on Silverbird TV on Friday, Aloba addressed accusations suggesting that he may be leveraging his son’s death to enhance his own music career.
Rejecting these allegations, the father of the late singer emphasized that he views music as a way to process his grief.
He said, “I taught Mohbad how to sing, I’m a gospel singer, he was a HipHop artist. After this thing happened, I see his songs as an easier way for me to mourn. I remember him through singing.
“I sing whenever I remember him, but people don’t see it that way. I did a record before his death, but it was not popular, but now people are focusing on me, and they know the kind of thing I’m doing. It is not that I started singing after his death. Very soon another album will be out.”
Aloba voiced his concerns regarding the changes in Mohbad’s mother following her son’s death. He noted that during Mohbad’s life, he had made efforts to foster family unity, but after his demise, Aloba found his mother’s behavior perplexing.
He said, “I don’t understand the mother. I was thinking we would come back together to find justice; unfortunately, I was surprised with the way she behaved. Mohbad was trying to bring us together when he was alive, but suddenly when the boy passed away, she changed totally.”
Aloba recalled a meeting convened by Mohbad’s attorney, where family members assembled but did not wait for him, as the family head, to arrive. “They had their meeting separately, then invited me later. That was where I sparked. I don’t know exactly what is happening with her.”
Regarding the investigation into Mohbad’s death, Aloba expressed his disappointment with the Lagos State Police’s handling of the matter, stating, “I’m not pleased with how the Lagos State Police handled the case.
“When Mohbad was alive, he was living with 15 people. After his death, those 15 people are moving freely. They should have called them to order to ask them. I’m not okay with their investigation. Some of his friends were invited, but those people who lived with him are moving freely; they are not being investigated.
“I remember when I invited someone who embalmed Mohbad to the police; could you believe the police were advising me that bygone is bygone? I want to know what exactly killed Mohbad.
