Spotify has chosen Qing Madi as its EQUAL Africa Artist for January 2025, highlighting her growing talent.
This is not Qing Madi’s first appearance in the spotlight through Spotify’s EQUAL program, as she has already been featured on the EQUAL playlist.
Spotify Wrapped data for 2024 shows that she is one of the top female artists in Nigeria, thanks to her popular song American Love.
Qing MadI wanted to celebrate my culture – Singer Chike reveals on his new album ‘The Son of Chike’i explained that her inspiration to follow a music career came from wanting to make a difference in people’s lives through her art. Her words:
“I realised music was my calling as young as when I was five years old. My WHY for pursuing music is rooted in a deep desire to impact the world positively and touch lives through my art. Music is my way of inspiring, uplifting, and connecting with people on a profound level.”
Madi noted that one of her biggest inspirations while growing up was American artist Kendrick Lamar. The singer stated:
“I grew up listening to the lyrical genius of Kendrick Lamar, whose artistry and storytelling influenced my creative journey and the way I approach music.”
According to Qing Madi, her sound is a mix of Afro-Soul and Afro-R&B. She said:
“My music is a fusion of Afro-Soul, Afro-R&B, and Afro-Pop—a rich, alternative African sound. It is deeply soulful and resonates with emotions, creating a connection that speaks to the heart and mind.”
The emerging artist is a thrilling new talent in Nigerian music and stands out in a male-dominated field.
Madi explains that she has had to put in much more effort than the men she works with to succeed in this reality. She added:
“As a female artist, I’ve learned that you need to work a hundred times harder than your male counterparts to have your voice heard. My unique perspective is reflected in my artistry—I think differently, and I see the world in a way that shapes my writing and music. My lyrics often incorporate metaphors and layered meanings, allowing listeners to explore deeper emotions and perspectives through my songs.”
Qing Madi is preparing to launch her first album called ‘The Blueprint’ in January 2025, marking her growth as one of Nigeria’s top talents.
