A sorrowful incident has struck Calabar, the capital of Cross River. Apostle Ubong Bassey, a reverend pastor, allegedly killed his 16-year-old daughter, Deborah, who had Down Syndrome, claiming she was involved in witchcraft.
This alarming story gained attention through a viral post on X, which used to be known as Twitter. The incident is said to have occurred at No. 7 Jacob Street, off Eyo Edem, in the Calabar South Local Government Area.
Bassey, who is Deborah’s younger brother, mentioned that their father gathered everyone to inform them of her death following the incident.
He recalled that he opened the door to help Deborah with her waste, but their father insisted she take care of it herself. She did as he said but fell while heading back to her room.
Bassey said he told their father, who then came into the room and asked the others to step out while he helped Deborah. After some time, Apostle Ubong gathered his children and announced that Deborah had passed away.
The individual who shared this, called @EduEle5 on X, mentioned that the police have been alerted and the pastor is currently on the run.
Officials have started a search for a man and are requesting the community’s help to locate and arrest him.
