- In an interview with Forbes Africa, Water and Garri singer-songwriter reveals she doesn’t believe she has the “gift” to mentor or oversee other artists under her label.

Nigerian artist Tiwa Savage has shared her reasons for refraining from signing emerging musicians, highlighting the challenges and responsibilities associated with managing artists.
In a recent discussion with Forbes Africa, the acclaimed singer of “Water and Garri” conveyed her belief that she lacks the necessary aptitude to mentor and manage other artists under her label. Instead, she prefers to create opportunities through alternative means.
“Everyone always says to me, ‘When are you going to sign an artiste?’ I don’t think I have the gift to sign another artiste, because artistes are stressful. I could just be sleeping, and then I will wake up and my artist is trending for something else,” she said.
The 45-year-old artist further expressed her desire to establish a music school, where aspiring musicians can hone their talents before being signed by record labels that can adequately support their careers.
“But I do have the gift to help, which is why I am trying to do the music school, where you can go and later sign to a label that can actually help you,” she added.
