- Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, rejected prayers for an extended lifespan beyond a century.
- During a sermon, a revered cleric addressed followers’ prayers for him to live to different ages, responding with a hearty “Amen” when they asked for his 80th year.

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has expressed his views regarding his desired lifespan, indicating a firm refusal of prayers aimed at extending his life beyond a century.
During a sermon, the esteemed pastor reflected on the prayers offered by his congregation for his longevity. He recounted that when they prayed for him to reach the age of 80, he responded with a joyful “Amen.” Similarly, he accepted the prayer for him to live to 90 years.
However, his demeanor shifted as the age increased. Pastor Adeboye noted that when a prayer was made for him to attain 100 years, he opted for silence. When another enthusiastic member of the congregation prayed for him to live to 120 years, he categorically dismissed the notion, questioning the rationale behind prolonging his life on earth for an additional 50 years.
In a light-hearted manner, he also shared an anecdote about a woman who fervently prayed for him to reach 140 years. In response, Adeboye firmly rejected the suggestion, underscoring his belief that life is fraught with challenges.
Pastor Adeboye on why he doesn’t want to live beyond 100
“When I was 70 years old, some children of mine began to pray for me. And they said, ‘Daddy, you will live to be 80,’ I said Amen. ‘You will live to be 90,’ I said Amen. They said, ‘You will live to be 100,’ I didn’t answer them.“And then one fellow got excited and said, ‘You will live to be 120,’ I said na lie! What will God say I have done wrong? I have been here for 70 years, He will now keep me here for another 50 years? In this world?
“Where today you have electricity, tomorrow you don’t have? But there was one lady who got really excited, and said, ‘You will live to be 140,’ I said no be me.”
