"Why I have lots of respect for women" – Actor Uzor Arukwe

A Facebook user, Chidozie Odogwudozilla Nnachor, has voiced his concerns regarding Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe’s portrayal of Igbo men in the movie Love in Every World, where he starred alongside Big Brother Naija alum Bambam.

According to Chidozie, Uzor, who has previously claimed to be underappreciated in the movie industry is actually causing significant harm to the image of Igbo men, an impact that he believes could last for generations.

He further argued that Uzor was reinforcing a harmful stereotype, particularly through his speech, which he claimed does not reflect how Igbo men actually talk. Chidozie described the actor’s accent in the film as “long, drooling, and cringeworthy.”

Additionally, he stated that Igbo men do not behave the way Uzor’s character did, criticizing his performance as exaggerated and unrepresentative. He went as far as to label the character as “borderline ridiculous” and “a misrepresentation of Igbo wealth and mannerisms.”

Despite some of his followers attempting to challenge his viewpoint, Chidozie remained firm, insisting that Uzor’s depiction was an embarrassment to Igbo culture.

This is not the first time Uzor Arukwe has faced backlash for his portrayal of an Igbo character—he previously came under fire for a similar role in Tribe of Judah.
