Hardworking Chelsea Defeats Manchester United To Win 8th FA Cup
Chelsea defied speculation over the future of manager Antonio Conte by winning the FA Cup with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United courtesy of Eden Hazard’s first-half penalty.
In what is widely expected to be Conte’s final match in charge, Chelsea finished their campaign with the Italian’s first ever domestic cup success after a defensively resilient display at Wembley.
Even though Manchester United dominated for long periods and virtually the entirety of the second half, they were unable to cancel out Hazard’s 22nd-minute spot-kick, failing to make the most of their possession by wasting several promising opportunities with profligate finishing or a poor final ball.
Chelsea were dogged in a manner reminiscent of their best under Conte, remaining compact and disciplined in the face of a sustained pressure, and supplemented by the mercurial Hazard in attack.
It is Chelsea’s eighth win in the FA Cup, only United and Arsenal have won the competition more.
