Student Loses Hand after IED Explosion in Ebonyi [Photos]
An improvised explosive device (IED) which went off during the break hour of Glory Land High School in Azugwu, Ebonyi reportedly chopped off the hand of one of the students.
The student was rushed to the emergency unit of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki after the explosion which caused serious confusion and panic in the school and its environs.
Recounting how the incident occurred, an eyewitness said the main victim Chibuike was playing with the device when it went off.
One of the students told New Telegraph: “I was in the school when the explosion occurred. I can’t tell what it was. But I saw Chibuike playing with the thing before it exploded. It’s like he came to school with it. The thing chopped off his left hand. He has been taken to the Hospital.”
Ebonyi State Police spokesperson, (DSP) Loveth Odah has reportedly confirmed the incident. She however said they are yet to get an official report from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Eke-Aba Police Station on the incident.
Odah added: “The DPO has gone there, but he has not reported to us. So we are still waiting for him.”
