Actor Kenneth Okonkwo blasts Tinubu for acquiring presidential jet amid the ongoing economic hardship

Actor and former spokesperson for the Labour Party’s presidential campaign, Kenneth Okonkwo, has expressed his disapproval of President Bola Tinubu’s decision to purchase a private jet amid the ongoing economic struggles faced by Nigerians.

On Monday, Kenneth took to Instagram to post a photo of Tinubu alongside images of various jets, criticizing the President for what he deemed a lack of empathy during a time when citizens are grappling with hunger, fuel shortages, and financial difficulties.

“People are dying of hunger. No food, no fuel, no finance, no electricity, and President Tinubu is buying a presidential jet. This is the height of insensitivity,” Okonkwo wrote.

His remarks came in the wake of the official introduction of the new aircraft on the same day.

Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, shared images of the new jet, indicating that it replaces a 19-year-old Boeing B737-700 (BBJ) that had been operational since the tenure of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Onanuga asserted that the new jet was obtained at a significantly lower cost.

The decision to replace the aging B737-700 (BBJ) was reportedly influenced by an investigative hearing conducted by a House of Representatives committee, which raised issues regarding the aircraft’s safety and cost-effectiveness.
