Veteran actor Patrick Doyle has expressed concerns regarding Afrobeats artist Davido’s choice of clothing during his recent visit to the Olu of Warri.

Davido, who performed in Warri on Saturday, paid a visit to the Olu’s palace accompanied by fellow musician Phyno.

Images from this visit, which circulated online, ignited discussions about the suitability of Davido’s attire.

The artists, along with comedian AY Makun and renowned barman Cubana Chief Priest, were in Warri for the highly anticipated “Warri AGAIN” event, organized by former Nigeria Football Federation President Amaju Pinnick.

In the images, Davido is depicted wearing brown shorts and a white shirt. Patrick Doyle, an Itsekiri native, questioned the appropriateness of such a casual outfit for an audience with a king of the Olu’s prominence.

In a post featuring a photo of Davido with the Olu, the actor remarked, “Is this appropriate dressing to visit the palace of a king, the calibre of the Olu of Warri?”

Reacting to the post…

@Azuka Jebose responded, “It is absolutely appropriate. He is not naked. He stood honorably and respectfully. He did not desecrate the King or the throne. Your conservative thinking doesn’t apply here, let him breathe.”

@Tunde Adebola weighed in, “What if he were a white guy? Unless there’s a specific dress code, it’s not wrong.”

@Jeff Uzor added, “If the palace attendants allowed it, I guess it’s fine.”

@Bukky Plumptre commented, “It seems unplanned, but Davido is one of the most respectful artists when it comes to royals and elders.”
