Actress Ekene Umenwa Faces Backlash for ‘Holy Mary’ Maternity Photos

Nollywood actress Ekene Umenwa’s maternity photos, where she imitated the image of Holy Mary, have sparked reactions from Ossai Ovie Success, an assistant to the Delta State Governor.

GistLover previously reported that Umenwa and her husband, Ifeanyi Alex, recently welcomed their first child, bringing joy to many fans. She chose to share this news by mimicking the portrait of Holy Mary.

However, Ossai was not pleased and shared his disappointment, stating that her portrayal was not accurate and disrespectful to the Catholic Church.

“The Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, was uniquely chosen by the Holy Spirit, and Ekene’s portrayal is totally unacceptable and disrespectful considering the fact that she was not impregnated by the Holy Spirit,” he wrote.

He pointed out that the actress wouldn’t have done the same with other religions, like Islam, because it is a special part of Christian tradition and respect.

While congratulating Umenwa on her first child’s birth, he encouraged her to say sorry to God and the public for her mistakes and seek forgiveness.
