Actress Iyabo Ojo shares reasons she regrets advocating Mohbad’s exhumation

  • Nigerian actress Iyabo Ojo has expressed regret over her involvement in the exhumation of the late singer Mohbad’s body.
  • Mohbad, also known as Ilerioluwa Aloba, passed away mysteriously on September 12, 2023, and was buried the following day.

Iyabo Ojo, the Nigerian actress, has conveyed her remorse regarding her participation in the exhumation of Mohbad’s remains, the late singer.

Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba, passed away under enigmatic circumstances on September 12, 2023, and was interred the following day. Subsequently, on September 21, 2023, law enforcement officials exhumed his body to conduct an autopsy.

In May 2024, the pathologist responsible for the autopsy disclosed that the cause of death could not be established due to the advanced decomposition of the remains. A toxicology analysis indicated the presence of Diphenhydramine, an antihistamine, in his system; however, it was not found in a lethal concentration.

During an interview with her colleague Biola Bayo, Iyabo Ojo, who had previously advocated for justice in connection with the singer’s death, expressed her regrets about the situation. She lamented the delays stemming from the exhumation and the ongoing conflicts within Mohbad’s family.

She said:

“I did my best. If I knew Mohbad’s case would turn out this way, I wouldn’t have requested that he be exhumed.”

“He hasn’t been buried till now. The dad says he wants a DNA test done, and I hear the court has granted that now but I hear the dad has conditions again.”

Iyabo Ojo clarified that her motivation for requesting the exhumation was to enable an autopsy that would reveal the cause of Mohbad’s death and to ensure justice was served. She noted that while she endeavored to advocate for investigations, “various theories and distractions” diverted attention from the quest for justice. The actress further added:

“I just wanted his body exhumed so they could do the autopsy, find out the cause of his death.”

“I did my best to make sure everyone was investigated but when they came up with different theories, DNA became their target and was more important.”

In October 2023, Joseph Aloba, the father of the late singer Mohbad, declared that his son would not be reinterred until a DNA test was performed on Liam, the child of the deceased artist.

He further urged the authorities to investigate Omowunmi, Mohbad’s spouse, in order to determine the circumstances surrounding the singer’s demise.

By December 2023, Wunmi consented to the DNA test but stipulated that it should take place at three different medical facilities.

Additionally, she accused her father-in-law of harassing both her and Liam on social media, as well as attempting to assert control over Mohbad’s assets.
