In other news, Nigerian star Rema explained that his second album ‘HEIS’ was driven by a wish to challenge the norm.
After his worldwide success with ‘Calm Down’, he released ‘HEIS’, which highlights his unique style.
In a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, Rema mentioned that he created this album to defy what listeners expect.
The musician who hit 1 billion Spotify streams with an Afrobeats song explained that his album ‘HEIS’ was an attempt to produce something distinct from the usual Nigerian pop music.
“I like the way I moved on to my new project. I don’t like to move the way people expect. I don’t like to move with the rules,” Rema said on his sophomore album whose upbeat production and breathless delivery are markedly different from the current Afrobeats soundscape.
Rema has made it clear that he wants to create a different sound based on his earlier statements about the album. At his London listening party, he explained that his album ‘HEIS’ is designed to produce Afrobeats that are difficult for foreigners to replicate, unlike the work of some artists who are making it easier to copy.
In his interview on The Breakfast Club, Rema shared insights about his music journey and mentioned that it took time for his mother to accept his choice to be an artist.
