Paul Onuachu will take Sadiq Umar’s position in the 2023 African Cup of Nations after the latter Super Eagles striker was disqualified, according to report.
This follows the news that forward Victor Boniface would not be competing in the competition, which is set to begin in Ivory Coast tomorrow, January 13.
Umar, 26, sustained a knee injury during Monday’s 2-0 friendly loss between Nigeria and the Syli Stars of Guinea.
However, the official Super Eagles account revealed on Friday via X that Paul Onuachu will take Sadiq Umar’s place.
“Sadiq Umar is out of the AFCON 2023 squad due to injury and Paul Onuachu replaces him.”
Onuachu attended the Egypt-hosted AFCON 2019 finals.
But the 29-year-old was injured and missed the previous competition in Cameroon.
Onuachu has nine goals and three assists in 15 appearances this season for Trabzonspor.
