Airtel increases data, call tariffs by 50%

    In response to the recent backlash from Nigerians regarding the tariff increase by MTN Nigeria, Airtel, the second-largest telecommunications provider in the country, has also adjusted its pricing structure.

    Airtel Nigeria has announced a revision of its data pricing, with increases reaching as high as 50 percent. This information was made available on its website on Monday.

    The adjustment impacts a range of data bundles and reflects the ongoing concerns within the industry regarding rising operational expenses.

    In addition to the changes in data pricing, the operator, which boasts over 56 million subscribers, has also raised its voice call tariffs over the past weekend.

    In its updated pricing list, Airtel reassured its customers of continued affordability, stating, “Whatever your data needs are, we have a plan for you. Our fast, affordable, and reliable internet experience will keep you connected anytime, anywhere. To get started, Dial *312#.”

    However, the company has yet to release an official statement addressing the reasons behind this tariff increase.

    In other news, The announcement from MTN about a 200 percent rise in data tariffs has sparked mixed reactions.

    According to Gistlover, many Nigerians were upset to find out that the price for 15GB has increased from N2000 to N6000.

    Following this, MTN used their official X page to comment on the price increase.

    They apologized to Nigerians and acknowledged the public’s anger.

    The network provider asked everyone to “forgive and forget,” but did not indicate whether they would review the data prices.

    We know how upsetting it must have been to suddenly wake up to a 200% increase on your favourite digital bundle.
