Following the death of Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State, on Wednesday, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, the governor of Ekiti State, has proclaimed three days of mourning.
Before his passing, Akeredolu served as the chairman of the South West and Southern Governors Forums.
The three-day state mourning was declared by Governor Oyebanji on Friday, per a statement made by his Special Advisor on Media, Mr. Yinka Oyebode.
For the three days of mourning, all flags at state-owned facilities will be flown at half mast.
Meanwhile, Oyebanji visited the late Akeredolu’s family a condolence visit at their Ibadan home on Friday. He had already expressed his sympathies to the Ondo State government and people.
Note that Mr. Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, had previously announced a three-day statewide mourning period in honor of the late Akeredolu.
His statement followed that of Ondo State, which had taken the lead in announcing three days of mourning in Akeredolu’s honor.
In Germany, where he had traveled for prostate cancer treatment, Akeredolu passed away at the age of 67.
