The Police Command of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has reported the apprehension of an individual suspected of engaging in internet fraud, commonly referred to as a Yahoo boy, in Abuja. This individual is accused of unlawfully detaining a young woman in connection with purported money rituals.
The operation leading to the arrest was executed by personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
In a statement issued on Thursday evening, the Public Relations Officer of the FCT Police, SP Josephine Adeh, indicated that the police are currently awaiting the official transfer of the suspect from the NSCDC.
The case gained widespread attention following the circulation of a video on social media, which depicted a young woman bound within a room. It was claimed that the suspect had held her captive at the Top View Hotel located in Wuse, Abuja, as part of a ritualistic practice.
“Findings revealed that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken the suspect into custody and are yet to hand over to the police for diligent investigation.
“The FCT Police Command, for all intents and purposes, awaits the NSCDC to hand over all parties for the commencement of diligent and discreet investigation. Further developments will be communicated in due course,” Police PRO stated.
