Habeeb Okikiola, commonly referred to as Portable, has faced criticism on social media for referring to end-of-governance protesters as “poor and lazy.”
In a viral video, the street singer spoke out against the nationwide protest that began on August 1st and continues to this day. He slammed those who reminded him of how he participated in the EndSARS protest years ago but is now retracting. Portable said that he was pøor at the time, which led him to join the demonstration.
According to Portable, the majority of demonstrators are unproductive and unmotivated. He added that their joblessness has led to nationwide protests, and he encouraged people to fight for themselves.
“You don’t have work. That’s why you’re protesting. Fight for yourself. Pøor man thinking is protest.
Most of the end bad governance protesters are pøor and lazy people”.
His statement has since elicited widespread criticism from Nigerians, with many reporting that his Instagram page should be taken down.
