Anambra arrests mother after saving the baby abandoned in a pit toilet

Nwaedoka Chidimma, 20, of the Izzi community in Ebonyi State, is accused of dumping her infant into a pit toilet in the Otuocha neighborhood of the Anambra East Local Government Area.

The baby was saved late on Tuesday after some neighbors overheard him crying from the pit toilet, according to information obtained by PUNCH Metro, who also learned that the incident occurred on Sunday.

A local, who only gave her first name as Esther, claimed that the offender, who was pregnant at the time, had obtained a farm job in the area. While working on the farm, the offender went to the bathroom, and when she returned, she was covered in blood.

Esther, a farmer, claimed that the suspect had asked to stay in her house for a few days so that she could complete the farming work she had found in the area.

“Chidimma is my friend, and she pleaded with me to let her stay at my house for a few days because she got a job working on a farm,” she remarked. After complaining of a stomach ache and using the pit toilet to relieve herself, she was working on the farm when she suddenly began acting strangely.

“She spent some time in the bathroom and then emerged with blood drops. I called a nurse right away because I thought she had a stillbirth, and the nurse informed me that the baby had died after examining her.

“Because I believed she had a stillbirth, I advised her to return to her parents’ house and inform them of the situation.

When we heard a baby crying on Tuesday, we hurriedly used a ladder to descend the pit, rescued the infant, and immediately notified security agencies and the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare.

Ify Obinabo, the state’s commissioner for women’s and social welfare, noticed the situation and acted quickly to treat the infant by transporting her to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital in Amaku Awka.

The offender was later arrested.

While confirming the suspect’s arrest, Obinabo revealed that the infant is safe and receiving care at the hospital.

She bemoaned the high rate of juvenile crime and vowed that the young mother wouldn’t escape punishment.

She added that Professor was the state’s governor. Such cruel and evil deeds are intolerable to Chukwuma Soludo.
