The Anambra State Government has shut down a shrine in Umuofor village, Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area, allegedly operated by self-proclaimed native doctor Ekene Igboegbueze, popularly known as Eke Hit. The shrine was reportedly used for supernatural wealth-making rituals.
Confirming the development, Ken Emeakayi, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, stated that the government acted following multiple complaints from residents of Okija regarding Igboegbueze’s illicit activities. The crackdown was also triggered by a viral video in which Ekene allegedly admitted to performing Oke Ite, Yahoo Plus, and Awele—practices considered illegal under Anambra State Homeland Security Laws.
As part of the enforcement, the government has also sealed off all properties acquired by the suspect through the alleged illegal business. Additionally, all items recovered from the shrine will undergo forensic testing, with further actions based on the findings.
Speaking on the matter, Chinenye Ihenko, Director of Operations for Agunechemba Security Outfit, condemned the rise of fake native doctors and pastors, stating that their deceptive activities fuel the get-rich-quick syndrome among the youth. He urged young people to avoid patronizing such individuals, warning that their promises of quick wealth are nothing but deceit.
