He was lynched by the mob who set him ablaze before the Police arrived. The elderly man whose bike was stolen by the dead suspect, said he was shocked as he watched the deceased unlock his bike with the aid of a master key, prompting him to inform people round the vicinity, who helped catch the suspect and set him ablaze.
The suspect was described as a serial robber, whose stock in trade was to steal motorcycle packed at the fuel station by people who come from Itu and Ibiono Ibom LGA for business, by an eyewitness.
Confirming the incident, Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Odiko MacDon, described the jungle justice as unfortunate and encouraged people to always report criminal matters to the police instead of taking the law in their hands.
Few months ago, three suspected robbers also met their ends in the hands of an angry mob at Uyo-Itam junction along Calabar/Itu Highway in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital. After their alleged capture, the suspects were descended upon and beaten mercilessly before they were set ablaze by irate residents of the area.
