French referee Tony Chapron faces a ban for kicking a Nantes player in last night’s Ligue 1 game with Paris-Saint Germain after the FFF issued a suspension. According to reports, the committee of French referees is holding an emergency meeting to discuss the bizarre incident.
Chapron collided with Nantes player Diego Carlos latein the game and then kicked out at him. The referee then showed Carlos a second yellow card and sent him off.
Nantes chairman Waldemar Kita claimed the decision was “scandalous” and called for said Chapron to be banned for six months.
And Nantes coach Claudio Ranieri added: “I have never seen anything like it. I am sure you haven’t either. I do not know what happened. Should the referee be suspended? I don’t know.
“What I do know is that I could not have one of my players in the closing minutes and, more seriously, that he will be suspended for the next match. But why? Why?”
Former referee Bruno Derrien said: “The DTA (referee’s committee) can take action.
Chapron’s action as no place in the game. I think his act will not please the referee’s committee.”
