Anthony Joshua gave a message to Joseph Parker’s mum after defeating the New Zealander on points at the weekend.
The message has now been hailed by boxing fans.
The undefeated Brit added Parker’s WBO championship to his WBA, IBF and IBO belts after going the distance for the first time in his career at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
After the fight, speculation quickly turned to a potential match-up with WBC champion, Deontay Wilder.
Joshua was asked about the outspoken American’s recent claims he wants to “kill” a boxer in the ring.
In response, the 28-year-old said: “Wilder is Wilder isn’t he, that’s what you’re going to get.
“I wouldn’t want a body on my record.
“I say my little prayer in the corner, I pray for success and I pray for his health.
“I made sure I spoke to Parker’s mum before she left and said ‘pat your son on the back because he’s done well and he’ll be back’.
“That goes a long way so why would I want to kill her son in the ring?
“Each to their own but for me, that’s not who I am but for him let’s not belittle him for what he says.
“That’s who he is and we accept him for it.”
The humble answer was quickly praised by viewers online.
“Nothing but love and respect for AJ,” one wrote.
Another added: “What a classy gentleman.”
