Regarding the appointment of 68 local government area caretaker committee chairs, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chapter in Osun State has taken legal action against Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Osun State Electoral Commission in an Osun State High Court.
This was stated in suit number HOS/M210/2023, which our correspondent was able to collect yesterday. It was filed before the Osun State High Court, Osogbo judicial division, on October 30.
The party requested that the caretaker committees established within the Osun State local government councils, Osun State local council development areas, Osun State council area offices, and Osun State local council administrative offices be declared illegal, unlawful, and unconstitutional by the court through the representation of Ayodele Kusamotu, Idowu Oloyede, and three other attorneys.
The APC argued that Governor Ademola Adeleke, the first defendant in the case, did not have the constitutional authority to send the names of specific individuals to the State House of Assembly through the Speaker for screening and confirmation before those individuals could be appointed as caretaker committee chairs, vice-chairmen, secretaries, special advisers, and other positions.
The party further requested that the court order all council chairmen to return any allowances and salary that they had received since the day of inauguration.
Along with 71 other parties, including the Osun State Governor, the Attorney General, the Commissioner for Justice, the House of Assembly, and 68 caretaker chairmen, the APC was included in it.
Remember that on August 16, 2023, the state’s governor, Ademola Adeleke, installed the caretaker committee chairmen
