APC Tells Governor Obaseki to Resign Over Bad Governance.

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Edo state chapter has asked Governor Godwin Obaseki to resign from office with immediate effect.

The party in a statement on Sunday, December 20, said it had good reasons to demand for the governor to step down.

The Sun reports, the chairman of the Edo APC caretaker committee, David Imuse, argued that one of the grounds for making the demand was because Obaseki lacked ideas on how to govern the state.

The APC chieftain also accused the governor of failing to uphold his oath of office to protect the life and property of Edo citizens.

He said:

“No one is safe in Edo. The state is under siege. We have a governor who has lost focus. Fear and insecurity have become the order of the day, yet the governor takes N700 million monthly as security vote. And, so far, he has not been able to deploy this huge amount to mobilise the security agencies in the state to fight criminality.”

The party further claimed that Obaseki has plunged the state into more indebtedness with his recent borrowing of N25 billion from the capital market.

Another argument adduced by the APC for the governor to leave office was his alleged disregard for the rule of law by refusing to disobey court orders.

Premium Times reported that the governor’s party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has dismissed the allegations by the APC.

Chris Nehikhare, the PDP chairman in the state, accused the APC of making spurious claims against the governor.
